Abstract
|
|
|
A 16-year old boy with a huge retroperitoneal terato-dermoid cyst was treated with partial
resection of the tumor.
The operation was complicated by accidental excision of the proximal portion of the superior
mesenteric artery. The interrupted blood flow to the wide area of the intestine was successfully
restored by end-to-end anastomosis with a woven dacron graft between the right internal iliac artery
and the distal end of the injured superior mesenteric artery.
The pathophysiology attending with such a complication was discussed with some literatural review.
